Working with children in a residential treatment facility, I have become increasingly interested in mental health. All of the children we work with have had some form of trauma, abuse, or neglect in their early childhood years which has greatly affected their mental health. I see everyday the affect adverse experiences can have on our mental health. This Youtube video had a great impact on my overall interest in early childhood mental health.
Due to my interest in mental health and the early childhood field, my research simulation topic is, if a child in a high-quality early education program that focuses on social emotional development, will see a positive impact on their mental health even if they are exposed to adverse experiences like the ones discussed in the video above?
An insight I have gained so far through this course is the literature review. This has always been an extremely hard concept for me. I have always been the person who looks for articles and studies that are identical to my topic. Through the course textbook, I have discovered this is not the actual purpose of literature reviews.
Does anyone have resources that will help in this research process?

Great blog! You have stated a very in-depth question for your research. As I think about your question, I do wonder if there is a specific answer to your question because each child is unique and therefore what the answer might be for one child, may not be for another. I love that you are already working in this field so this might also be helpful in your research. I find that the best way for us to find resources to help with the research process is to break things down and do searches in smaller ways. I find that when I do not break things down, I become overwhelmed and therefore, have trouble finding the answers that I need. I think that overthinking can also be a big problem, which can crown our head and stop us from completing the research that we are trying to do. I think we need to remember that we all have been doing research since we were children just in various ways, and that this is not that much different. Good luck to you, I look forward to the vast amount of knowledge that you will be able to share as you continue with your research.
