Before this class, I had not explored the international early childhood world. Through this course, I have discovered the many organizations working to improve early childhood around the world. Many of these organizations have enriched my professional development and provided many benefits for my professional development in the field.
Through this course and the exploration of international organizations, I have gained awareness of the many issues that affect the early childhood world. Poverty, war, funding, access, disease, etc. greatly affect the early childhood experience children experience. Organizations like UNICEF that are working to provide education to all children, The National Black Child Development organization that is working to provide a better life for all Black children, Children International that is working towards ending poverty in communities, etc. have opened my mind to the grandiose issues we face.
The second benefit I believe I have received from researching my own international organization and reading others' research has been the knowledge I have gained in resources. Although the organizations we researched are attacking problems at a national level, we all experience these problems at the local level in our community. Looking at these organizations and seeing how they are working to solve these problems has given me ideas on how to address issues in my community. For example, the majority of these organizations are addressing issues throughout their community. I have learned that not much can be done without community involvement.
While looking at the organziation CARE, I have learned the wide variety that must be addressed to make the impact on early childhood. CARE has five program outcomes they focus on; food and nutrition and climate change resilience, humanitarian response, right to a life free from violence, sexual, reproductive and maternal health rights, women's economic empowerment (CARE, n.d.). Although none of these issues are involved in early childhood on a day to day basis, in the long run they can greatly impact early childhood for all children. CARE has opened my eyes to all that must be done.
One goal for the field should be working with politicians, early childhood professionals, advocates, and organizations like CARE to address all these issues. We have the tools and resources to do this, we must come together as a united front to build up our children from the start.

Rachel,
ReplyDeleteI have enjoyed reading your post this week. I want to thank you for your very informative post because through them I learned more and I have resources that I can add to my resource list and keep in mind for future use. I think that even though many of us had similar or same organizations we all took a different approach to learning and sharing what we learned with our colleagues. I agree with you that becoming an advocate for the field of early childhood education is also a goal of mine. I wish you look as we continue this educational journey and hope to learn from you blog post.
Rachel,
ReplyDeleteI do agree that this course has been an excellent means of becoming in tune with the issues that are taking place in early childhood education around the world. When you mentioned that we have many of these issues taking place in our local communities as well, it really resonated with me.. I have decided to commit myself to finding out more about what is transpiring in my community as well as ways that i can help. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Rachel,
ReplyDeleteI have enjoyed reading and learning about the international organization that you have chosen. Learning about the organization CARE has helped me to understand that most issues start in our communities, and if we learn and attempt to build strong ones, then we will have less problems. Thank you so much for sharing and letting me learn through your blog!
Thanks for your informative BLOGS, I enjoyed reading your post on CARES and the impact internationals studies had on your early childhood education. Like you before this course I did not research international views on early childhood. I am sure you will agree there are things we could do differently in the US and some issues are the same worldwide.
