The international organization I found is CARE. CARE works to address the underlying issues of poverty and social injustice in the hopes of making change in the lives of people in poverty that has lasting affects (CARE, n.d.).
From what I have seen on the website so far, it looks like this organization works to promote Women's rights and the power of gender inequality. Due to cultural beliefs around the world, women and girls have less rights and access to education and CARE believes this is an underlying cause of poverty. Women empowerment is the basis for all of CARE's programs. CARE also works to create inclusive governments in countries and communities suffering from poverty. Inclusive government is promoted by encouraging poor people to educate themselves on what is happening and helping them use their voice to stand up for what is needed. CARE also works with politicians in making the right decisions for their community but also listening to the poor. Finally, CARE works to create an inclusive government by promoting a connection between poor people and government officials. CARE also works to build up poor people's ability to bounce back in tough situations, they work to make poor people more resilient. CARE has five program outcomes they focus on; food and nutrition and climate change resilience, humanitarian response, right to a life free from violence, sexual, reproductive and maternal health rights, women's economic empowerment (CARE, n.d.).
The concept that truly stuck out to me while looking through this website is the concept of putting women and girls in the center of CARE's overall program. This has become a large topic of conversation in our country and it shocked me to read that this is also a focus in so many other countries to get rid of poverty. Although we have learned differently this week, poverty is not always on top of the list of big issues in our country. I think this shows that there are many opportunities to help put poverty in the past as it connects to so many other hopes and beliefs of people not in poverty who can truly help.

My research on international poverty was revealing and similar. The families I read about were poor and went into dumps to collect plastics that couldn’t be recycled. When there was no more in the dump site families moved near another site. Despite the fact the work was hard it paid better then other jobs in the country. Similar to parents all over the world these parents wanted better opportunities for their children..
ReplyDeleteTherefore parents support new educational programs for their children.
